Physical Education

All Laguna Elementary School students attend physical education (P.E.) classes weekly.  Our main goal is to provide a learning environment in which success is based on acquiring skills, improving skills, developing physical fitness, and learning good sportsmanship.  We value physical education and teach healthy habits as part of a healthy lifestyle.  Go Longhorns!

Students attend P.E. on a 3-day rotation schedule.  Students in the primary grades (K – 2) attend class for 30 minutes and intermediate students (3 – 6 grades) attend class for 40 minutes.

We offer additional opportunities for students to participate in organized physical fitness actives though lunch time intramural programs.  Sports include volleyball, milers running program, flag football, and basketball.  Any student may join games during our lunchtime activities.

For students that desire a more competitive environment, we offer after school sports.  Any student in fifth and sixth grade who is passing in all subjects may participate in various sports after school.  Our season sports consist of girls volleyball, cross-country, flag football, girls basketball, and boys basketball.   Cross-country is open for additional students who are passing in all subjects in third and fourth grade as well.  Games are scheduled amongst the six elementary schools within the Flowing Wells School District.

In the spring, all fifth and sixth grade students participate in the Flowing Wells District Track and Field Meet.

Bike Club

Laguna is very fortunate to have a fleet of bikes for students to use on our bike track during P.E. and Fun Fridays.  Ignacio and Luke from the Pima County Transportation Department keep our tires pumped and bikes in excellent conditions for our students.  Every year they teach a bike safety unit to students in 3rd – 6th grade, and give each students a free bike helmet to go with their training.  We are very lucky to have them!

Soccer Shoot Out and Basketball Hoops Shoot

Our partnership with the Casas Adobes Elk’s Lodge allows us to host a Soccer Shoot Out and a Basketball Hoops Shoot each year for students in 3rd – 6th grade.  Volunteers from the Elk’s Lodge work with students and encourage them to put their best effort into making goals and baskets.  Members of the Elk’s Lodge return during our Excellence Assemblies to present medals and balls to those with the best score in each grade level.
