How do I register my child for school?

Please come to the school office to register your child at Laguna Elementary. Make sure to bring:

  • Birth Certificate (children must be 5 years old by August 31)
  • Immunization records
  • Emergency telephone numbers
  • Proof of residency (an electric, phone or water bill)
  • Returning students do not need to register

What is the attendance policy?

Please call the office before 9 a.m. if your child is going to be absent. If the school does not receive a call, school personnel will call the parents.

How do I volunteer at the school?

If you would like to volunteer at school, please contact your child's teacher and let them know about your interest in volunteering. Keep in mind when volunteering that district regulations prohibit a parent from bringing preschool aged children to the campus when volunteering or chaperoning a field trip. Also, if you are not the parent or legal guardian of a Flowing Wells student, the district must formally approve you as a volunteer. If you have any questions, please contact us at 696-8450.

What is the daily school schedule?

Our students begin school at 8 a.m. and are dismissed at 2:10 p.m. We currently offer all-day kindergarten. The school is not responsible for children at school before 7:30 a.m. or after 2:15 p.m. Students should not be at school before 7:30 a.m. and should go home directly from school unless they are participating in an after school program. This does not apply if students are enrolled in the Y.E.S. program.

What are the bus rules and consequences?

Riding the bus is a privilege and students who do not obey the rules and driver will no longer be able to ride the bus. Students who are riding are under the authority of the group sponsor or driver and shall:

  • Immediately sit down after boarding
  • Remain seated while bus is moving
  • Keep animals and unsafe items off the bus
  • Be quiet and conduct themselves properly
  • Get driver's permission to open windows or doors
  • Take care of their own property and understand that the school is not responsible for personal items
  • Obey the bus driver
  • Wait for the bus in an orderly manner
  • Keep hands, feet, and objects to self
  • Use appropriate language
  • Face the front of the bus
  • Maintain an appropriate voice level

Consequences for students who choose to break the bus rules:

  • 1st offense- Warning/Conference
  • 2nd offense- One to Ten day bus suspension
  • 3rd offense- Ten days to remainder of school year suspension
  • Severe offense- Suspension without prior actions

Can my child ride his/her bike to school?

Yes, your children may ride their bikes to school. However, students must have a bike lock and wear a bike helmet when riding to and from school.

How does lunch/the cafeteria work? How much does lunch cost?

We serve breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria each day. Your child may purchase meals on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. We allow daily purchases at breakfast or lunch. Regular breakfast is $1.00, and lunch is $2.75. Students may buy milk for $0.50 cents.

What if my child forgets his/her lunch money?

Students who forget their lunch may charge a lunch for that day. We will send a charge slip home, and we appreciate prompt repayment. Students may charge up to three times. After the third charge, if a student forgets lunch, we will give him/her a modified meal consisting of peanut butter or cheese, crackers, fruit and milk. We will not refuse service to any child.

How do I apply for the free or reduced lunch program?

You many pick up a simple form from the school office for the free and reduced lunch program. Reduced breakfast is $0.30 cents and lunch is $0.40 cents.

What is the discipline policy at the school?

All Flowing Wells Schools use a progressive program. Our program essentially enforces a set of clearly written school and classroom rules with understood consequences. All rules apply when the student is traveling to and from school. It functions effectively with the support of the school and the parent. The principal and your child's teacher will provide a detailed explanation of how the discipline plan operates.

When are parent-teacher conferences?

We hold Parent-teacher conferences after the first nine-week session of school. At this meeting teachers will go over the report card for the first grading period. We may hold another conference with you and your child after the third grading session, on an as-needed basis. If you would like to meet with the teacher at any other time during the year, then call or email them to schedule an appointment. We are happy to meet with you.

What are some ways I can help my child in school?

Parents are an integral part of student success. You can help your child by:

  • Sending them to school everyday on time
  • Communicating with your child's teacher and the school
  • Supporting your child's school work and homework
  • Serving as a role model for your children
  • Supporting student effort in special activities
  • Getting involved in your child's school by volunteering

Can my child bring a cell phone to school?

Students may not bring electronic devices or toys to school, including cell phones, cd players, ipods, or pagers. We are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items. We also do not allow scooters, skateboards, and rollerblades.

How do I withdraw my child from school?

Please complete a student withdraw form from the school office. We will send the child's records to the new school upon written request from that school.

Will my child be participating in Music, P.E., and Library?

All students in grades K-6 will have music, P.E., and Library at least once weekly. Please make sure that students are prepared for library by returning the book they checked out, as well as wearing appropriate clothes and tennis shoes for P.E.

Can my child take their own medication at school?

Students may not possess any prescription or non-prescription medication at any time during the school day. This includes inhalers. All medication must have a prescription from the doctor and must be in the original container with the dispensing instructions and physician's name. Parents must fill out an authorization form before we will give medication to a student. We will not give non-prescription medication to a student during the school day.

What is the dress code?

We do not allow students to wear any clothing that is disruptive or considered unsafe in any way, including:

  • Shoes higher than two inches
  • Shoulder straps less than two inches wide
  • Makeup
  • Exposed midriff
  • Shorts to mid-thigh

What are the emergency procedures?

Safety is a priority here at Laguna Elementary. We practice fire drills monthly. We also practice lockdowns two times per year with a school-wide evacuation once per year.
